In 2013 I came across a school book called I come from Romania (Don’t forget us) from 1995, written by Aneta Ganeri. The book was originally used as educational material for British students to learn more about their new Romanian classmates by following the story of a girl named Irina. The book explains that Irina moved to the West together with her family in order to escape the poverty brought by the Communist regime.
Ganeri’s book inspired the creation of I come from Romania t0o, a parody book that follows my own fantastical story of departure and relationship towards the West.
